Follow these steps to configure Apple Mail for Mac OS X to work with your secure BurlyMail.net e-mail account.
Ready to begin? Lets go:
- 1. Launch Apple Mail
Start Mail.app using the Dock or the Finder.
→ If this is the first time you are using Apple Mail, the account setup assistant appears upon launch - skip to step 2.1.
→ If you already use Apple Mail and, continue with step 1.1 below.
- 1.1. Open Mail application preferences:

Choose Preferences... from the Mail application menu.
- 2. Add new account:

With the Account pane active, click the plus symbol found near the bottom of the Accounts list
- 2.1. Set general account information:
Select IMAP as the account type, and provide your full name and complete e-mail address where indicated.
Once ready, click the Continue button.
- 2.2. Set incoming mail server:
Set incoming to mail.burlyhouse.net, and use your complete e-mail address as username with your login password.
Click the Continue button.
Oops - timeout failure. At this point, Mail will try to contact the server but it will fail.
Don't worry - this is normal and expected behavior, as Burly Mail allows only secure connections and we haven't yet configured security options for this account.
When ready, click Continue.
- 2.3. Set incoming mail security options:
When presented with security options click the use secure sockets layer (ssl) checkbox and select password from the pop-up menu.
When ready, click Continue.
- 2.4. Set outgoing mail server:
Set outgoing to smtp.burlyhouse.net, and again provide your complete e-mail address and login password. Be sure to click the use authentication checkbox before continuing.
As before, a timeout failure is reported.
When ready, click Continue.
- 2.5. Set outgoing mail security options:
When presented with security options click the use secure sockets layer (ssl) checkbox and select password from the pop-up menu.
When ready, click Continue.
- 2.6. Confirm account settings:
Finally, confirm that you entered everything correctly.
